The samakalam is not only to play the role of ‘information provider’ and ‘opinion former’ in an analytic, accurate and credible manner about the Tamils’ struggle in the Island of Sri Lanka and their glitches, apprehensions and ambitions elsewhere in the world, but also to play the role of ‘knowledge transfer’ to enable empowerment through communicative social action on the part of the Tamil people who have been consistently and increasingly marginalized in the process of political participation, economic development and social change.
